Peeled tomatoes. The human anatomy reveals that it’s only our skin which keeps everything inside. But we wouldn’t know otherwise, and at that point, we wouldn’t be human anymore, would we? Of course, I suppose that’s just plain morbid :)
However, the truth of the matter remains that whatever is exposed on our surfaces does not reveal the soul. A beautiful face can cover up something hideous and horrible. Therefore, the only beauty that can possibly ever matter is that which shines brilliantly from the heart, and nothing else. I see such beauty every day in the friends I love, and the unnoticed, yet notable people who leave behind gifts of kindness in the avenues of our lives. I see them live. And when I do, I am glad to be human.
These are the pioneers who have given more than they receive, and remain happy. They are the ones who see only blessings through lenses of endless optimism. They love, and are loved. They are not afraid of making mistakes, and they succeed because of that blind faith in all people, including themselves. They belong to the world, and the world belongs to them. They are who we are desperate to become: nothing more and nothing less than ourselves.
